Every era in art history is defined by styles of figuration that convey the essential ideas of their moment. With my original and unique style of 3d CG figuration and animation I explore the virtualization of humanity, transference of identity, and being to digital substrata. The malleability and plasticity of forms in the digital defy the fixed parameters of the physical, creating never-seen aesthetics and styles that are imbued with all the changes that we are going through right now. I see my role as more of an explorer that participates in the aggregated imagination of our moment, as I explore the profound ideas emerging in our world.
Derived from my #GlitchedOdalisque Chronometric Sculpture, the figure is posed against a backdrop of Ahoopay or honeycomb stalactite vaulting seen in Iranian Architecture. I first animated #GlitchedOdlasique for my 2017 Whitney Museum #Arthack, and since then this figure has appeared in numerous #arthacks of mine, including the viral and critically acclaimed #GlitchGoddess of Art Basel Miami 2018 #arthack. Using Motion capture of Middle Eastern dance and my original and unique style of figuration and animation in 3DCG, she is further deformed as a sculptural volume exploring the possibilities of form in this pose and with the pictorial and conceptual space of contemporary Persian-inspired Digital Art.
For my technique, I mix elements of pose-to-pose animation with procedural/generative systems, motion graphics, Glitch, and physics-based dynamics and simulations. My proprietary technique of #ChronometricSculpture combines the ideals of sculpture with that of animation, CG, and post-humanism alongside contemporary digital aesthetics.
The background was derived from photographic data of Iranian-style Ahoopay architecture, the data was then further voxelized in 3d and glitched. Additional background elements employ a mix of 2d and 3d glitches. The entire scene was Pathtrace-rendered at super high resolutions for maximum visual fidelity in print. The color palette was inspired by popular contemporary Net Art palettes while retaining the textural qualities of Glitch Art.
An animated painting is also available as an NFT, featuring Glitched Odalisque and the sequence from which the pose was derived alongside other animated meshes and Persian calligraphy.
